Hand Carry Courier for Urgent Small Items

A clear plan for the item that cannot wait in a parcel queue

THE SERVICE
▲Same-day dedicated collection
▲Direct delivery
▲Dispatch anywhere in the UK
▲24 hours a day, 365 days a year

A hand-carried urgent delivery often starts with a small item and a large consequence: a document needed for signing, a replacement part or a sample with a fixed receiving window. The challenge is protecting it and reaching the right person at the right entrance.

TLX runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and dispatches anywhere in the UK. We arrange same-day dedicated collection and direct delivery. Describe the item and handover when you enquire so the booking can be planned around its size and destination.

What “hand carry” means for this booking

For a road booking, hand carry means close attention to a small, urgent consignment. It does not itself specify an aircraft cabin, an on-board courier or access to a secure building. State any such requirement before booking and agree the handover arrangements.

A dedicated, direct journey avoids a shared parcel sorting timetable. You still need a named contact, usable address and permission to release the item at the other end.

Pack for the item, not just its dimensions

Put papers in a closed envelope or document wallet, separating originals from spare copies. For a fragile component, use a rigid box and cushioning to stop movement; protect pins, screens and sharp edges individually. A padded envelope will not protect crushable contents.

Seal the package before collection. Put recipient details outside, keeping sensitive information out of view. If orientation matters, mark the package and tell the booker. Flag any temperature requirement, specialist handling or legal paperwork before a vehicle is chosen.

Choose the space the package needs

An envelope or compact box may suit a small van. An awkward case or long component may need more space despite its low weight. Give the packed length, width, height and weight, including handles that affect how it fits.

Ask how the item should be placed and restrained. A case must not slide or tip on bends; a tall item may need another position or vehicle. Narrow loading areas, stairs and security desks also affect the plan. Compare the vehicle pages below.

Give the booker a workable handover plan

Give both full addresses, postcodes, contact names and mobile numbers. Add the collection window, latest useful delivery time and opening hours. Explain the parking and entrance, and whether reception or a named person must accept the package.

Describe the contents, package count, packed size and weight, fragility, paperwork and handling limits. Agree any ID check, signature or return item in advance. If access changes after booking, update the delivery contact.

Avoid the small-item mistakes that cause delays

  • Do not quote the unboxed size when the case is larger.
  • Do not leave a fragile item loose in an oversized box or assume a “fragile” sticker secures it.
  • Do not give only a company name when a campus, hospital or multi-unit site has several entrances.
  • Do not assume the recipient is available around the clock.
  • Do not call a job “hand carry” and leave air travel, escort or security access requirements unstated.
FAQ

Good to know.

Anything not covered here, call us — a specialist picks up, not a call queue.

Is hand carry the same as an on-board courier?

No. This page concerns urgent small items on a dedicated road delivery. If an accompanied flight or special custody is required, describe it before booking.

Can I book an envelope or one small box?

Give the packed dimensions, weight and both addresses. A small van may suit, but the package and handover decide. Keep protective packaging in place.

What if the document or part must reach a named person?

Provide their name, telephone number, hours and exact entrance. Agree what should happen if they are unavailable. A postcode alone cannot identify the authorised recipient.

How should I prepare a fragile item?

Use a rigid outer box, protect vulnerable edges and stop the contents moving within it. Share the packed dimensions and any orientation or handling restrictions. If the item cannot tolerate ordinary road movement, explain that before booking so its suitability can be considered.

Can you collect outside normal office hours?

TLX operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Check that someone can release the package at collection and receive it at delivery, and tell the booker about any site access arrangements outside office hours.
