Electrical Items Courier
A direct journey for electrical equipment that needs careful preparation
An electrical item can be easy to carry and still be difficult to transport well. A boxed laptop, an upright display and a heavy appliance each need different protection. The useful question is not simply whether the item fits in a van: it is whether the packaging, loading method and vehicle suit its size, weight and fragile points.
TLX arranges dedicated same-day collection and direct delivery anywhere in the UK, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Tell us what is travelling before it is collected. We can then discuss the packed dimensions, access at both ends and the vehicle the job calls for.
Prepare the item before collection
Switch equipment off, disconnect it safely and follow the manufacturer’s moving instructions. Photograph cable positions if reassembly matters, then label and pack leads, plugs, remotes and loose fittings separately. Do not leave a power lead trailing where it can catch during loading.
Use the original box and moulded inserts if they are sound. Otherwise choose a rigid outer carton or suitable crate, cushion all sides and prevent the item moving inside. Protect screens and glass with a non-abrasive layer before adding rigid protection; tape should never touch the display itself. Cover exposed ports and protruding controls without putting pressure on them.
A box marked “fragile” is not a substitute for packaging. Mark the correct orientation and tell us if the maker requires the item to stay upright. Disclose batteries, refrigerant, stored liquids or other moving restrictions at booking so the requirements can be checked before collection.
Choose the vehicle around the load
One or two well-packed cartons may suit a small van. A tall, boxed television or several bulky units may need the extra usable space of a Luton van. A palletised cabinet, large appliance or heavy batch needs a separate conversation about weight, loading equipment and site access. Measure the item after packing: foam, a crate or a pallet can change the vehicle choice.
For a wheeled rack or a machine with a high centre of gravity, agree how it will be restrained and whether it must remain upright. A pallet should be stable, with the item fixed to it and no unsupported overhang. Do not assume a driver can lift a heavy item alone or that a tail lift, forklift or pallet truck will be available; confirm the loading plan at both addresses before booking.
What to tell us when you book
“A printer” could mean a desktop unit in a carton or a floor-standing machine that needs specialist loading. If unsure of the weight or safe lifting method, check the manufacturer’s plate or manual rather than estimating.
- What the item is, its packed length, width, height and total weight; include the pallet or crate.
- Whether it contains a battery, liquid or refrigerant, and any manufacturer transport restrictions.
- Fragile surfaces, protruding parts, required orientation and whether the item is already packed.
- Collection and delivery postcodes, floor levels, stairs, lifts, parking and any restricted access.
- Who will load and unload, what equipment is available, and the times someone can receive it.
Avoid the common packing mistakes
Loose accessories can scratch a screen or press against a switch. Oversized boxes let the item build momentum even on a direct journey. Stretch wrap holds a pallet together but does not protect delicate faces from an impact. And a machine that cannot pass through the destination doorway is not helped by choosing a larger vehicle.
Check the full route from the collection room to the receiving point, including door widths and steps. Keep a list of components travelling with the main unit. If the item is valuable or difficult to replace, keep serial numbers and photographs for your own records before it leaves.
