Transit storage in Northampton
Goods held securely between collection and delivery — the short hold a delivery window sometimes forces, not a warehouse.
Let us deal with the most common reason people land on this page first: TLX Group is a same-day courier and dedicated haulage company, not a warehouse. We do not rent storage space, we do not hold stock, and we do not offer pick and pack or ecommerce fulfilment. If that is what you are looking for, we are not the right call and we would rather say so now than waste an afternoon of yours.
What we do have is the ability to hold your goods securely for a short period while they are in our care — overnight, most often — where the delivery window makes that necessary. That is transit storage, and on a deadline-sensitive job it is frequently the thing that makes the delivery work at all.
What transit storage actually means
Transit storage is goods being held in the course of a journey we are already making for you. You book a collection, we collect, and instead of the consignment going straight to the delivery address it stays securely with us until the delivery window opens.
The distinction from warehousing is not pedantry — it changes what you can ask for. Warehousing is space you rent, by the pallet or the square foot, for as long as you need it, with stock you can add to and draw from. Transit storage is measured in hours, attaches to one specific consignment, and ends when we deliver it.
- Collected today, but the delivery site cannot receive until tomorrow morning
- A booking slot that opens at 7am, too early to collect and drive the same day
- Two collections that need to arrive together on one vehicle
- A delivery refused or missed on arrival, held safely rather than returned
What we do not offer
Being plain about this saves everyone a phone call. TLX does not offer long-term or contract storage, pallet storage by the week or month, ecommerce fulfilment, pick and pack, stock management, or a bonded facility. Earlier versions of this page described a large storage operation. That was out of date, and it is the reason this page has been rewritten rather than quietly left up.
If you need genuine warehousing in Northampton, what you want is a third-party logistics provider or a self-storage operator, and the thing worth asking them first is minimum contract length — that is usually what decides whether a small requirement is affordable.
How goods are held and insured
While your consignment is with us it stays in our custody, in a secure location, and it does not get handled, sorted or transferred between vehicles the way it would inside a parcel network. The driver who collected it is generally the driver who delivers it.
We are members of the British International Freight Association and all work is carried under BIFA Standard Trading Conditions (2025 edition), with goods-in-transit and public liability cover as standard. If your consignment is high-value or unusually sensitive, say so when you book so we can tell you honestly whether holding it is the right call.
What we are actually good at
The reason to call us is the delivery, not the storage. We run dedicated same-day and next-day work across Northampton, Northamptonshire and nationwide: one job, one vehicle, collected and driven direct with no depot network and no transhipment. Nine vehicle sizes, from a small van to an articulated lorry.
From our base at Strixton, on the A45 between the M1 and the A14, most of England and Wales is within a same-day run. If your real problem is that something has to be somewhere by a certain hour, that is the conversation worth having — and the short hold, if it is needed, is simply part of arranging it.
Good to know.
Anything not covered here, call us — a specialist picks up, not a call queue.
