I’m sure we’ve all heard several different horror stories about couriers, which could put you off a courier service; for life! While there are of course some bad courier services around, you can’t paint every Courier Company with the same brush. In fact, many respectable Courier Companys ’ main focus is to form a good relationship with their customers, and work with them repeatedly to ensure business runs smoothly.
Here are some of the biggest myths, and the truths to these stories:
1. Couriers are too expensive
I think everyone has heard this one, it’s probably the most common myth of all time. Many people believe that courier’s overcharge, and add additional charges on, landing you with a huge Invoice; especially for same day services.
The reality is, any reputable courier business will ensure they do everything in their power to keep prices competitive, fair and as realistic as possible, communicating with you throughout the process, to avoid any additional charges. The ultimate goal is to form long-term, trusted relationships with clients. That would not be possible if their prices were through the roof.
2. Couriers are untrustworthy
Everybody has a bad experience with a delivery; whether it be a failed delivery attempt even after you’ve been sat waiting for the delivery all day, or the item has arrived damaged; it’s important to know the difference between a standard mail service and a same day dedicated service. A trustworthy courier will not allow any damage to happen whilst the item is in their care, they would also keep you updated on the location of your allocated driver, so you know an exact time they will be with you.
3. Couriers offer limited delivery
I’m sure some people have a picture in their mind of a courier as someone who will collect your small parcel and deliver it for you. While this is something we can of course do, the courier industry can deliver a range of items; from small envelopes/parcels to pallets of stock. No matter the size or weight of your item, it is definitely not limited.
4. Couriers get lost easily
Again, I can imagine almost everybody has a story about a courier who wasn’t able to locate their address, and had to collect from the local depot to save the frustration. However, with the fast-growing technology, couriers rely on real time GPS tracking to ensure the driver is in the right place.
Any courier business will also liaise with their customer way beforehand, to get clear instructions on the whereabouts, in case it can be hard to find. Quite frankly, “getting lost and giving up” is a poor excuse for a failed delivery.
5. Colleagues can do it quicker than a courier
When there’s several of you in your team that may be able to deliver the parcel, this can be tempting. We won’t lie, you may be able to get it delivered at the same speed as a courier – but it doesn’t matter how quickly they get it done, this is still time lost in your own business that could impact your own productivity levels.
While you might be able to get away with sending a member of staff down the road, any further and you could risk hitting a lengthy journey – with traffic, delays etc. – what you’d planned to be a half-hour task could take a lot longer than you anticipated.
