When you imagine a Courier Company; you think of the Courier Drivers, in their vans delivering up and down the country each day. Of course, they are the key part of any Courier Industry.
However, the Office team are crucial too. The Office team keep the tasks and routes running as smooth as possible, ensuring everything goes to plan. You have to be skilful and efficient to be a successful dispatcher in the Courier Business.
Eye for detail
When you are planning several routes at once, you need to ensure you have a great eye for detail. Without it, you risk the jobs not getting done most efficiently. Anyone from our Office team should be able to plan ahead, and make certain things are being done properly, guaranteeing the smoothest outcome for all jobs in hand.
Personable
Any dispatcher will be speaking to and dealing with several people at the same time. One thing they need to be capable of doing is making good relationships with people they’re going to work with, being open and honest with them at all time.
Dispatchers are trusted to communicate with customers and drivers, being the ‘middle man’, to make sure everything goes well – this means bad attitudes will not be tolerated. For things to always go well, everybody needs to get along… most importantly the person assigning tasks.
Time management
Getting jobs and tasks done in a timely manner is something everybody has to handle. However, being a dispatcher, this is extremely vital – they need to know how to manage all of the tasks at hand most quickly and efficiently, otherwise, they will be overwhelmed with work outstanding jobs to complete.
If a delivery isn’t completed on time, this can leave people frustrated and can also leave them behind on tasks. Anybody we hire to join our office, we make sure can deal with stressful situations and lots of pressure, so they provide the results we (and you, of course) need.
Adaptability
Deliveries can be rescheduled, changed or even cancelled at the drop of a hat. This means a dispatcher has to be adaptable enough to liaise these changes with the driver immediately, and ensure the changes don’t affect the job.
Without a flexible attitude, deliveries may be late or may not even be made, which proves difficult for anybody to face. Having the ability to make a quick decision is a must, if you are the one assigning tasks to people.
